Select Band 2019
On January 28th, 53 students from Gray Middle School Band were selected to the Northern Kentucky Select Band. This is the most number of students ever selected to this group from Gray! These students will get to learn from world-class conductors on February 22nd and 23rd, and present a final concert in Greaves Auditorium on the campus of Northern Kentucky University. Mr. Craig is the band director at Ryle High School, but team teaches at Gray during the first 2 periods of the day.

Bill Kidwell - Band Director
In his time at Gray Middle School, the concert bands have received consistent distinguished ratings at concert assessment and are 8 time recipients of the exemplary performance award for district 6. The jazz ensemble was invited to perform at the KMEA Conference and the State Board of Education ConventionGray Middle School bands make up roughly 30% of the student population at Gray. Students are encouraged to participate in jazz ensemble, percussion ensemble and chamber ensembles as well as concert band.
Mr. Kidwell holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Music Education from Northern Kentucky University. He is a member of KMEA, MENC, NKBDA and the National Band Association. He has been married to his wife, Lisa for 33 years, and they have two sons, Tyler and Kyle.

Bill Kidwell is in his 30th year of teaching in Kentucky. He has taught at Woodland Middle School, Ludlow High School, Lloyd Memorial High School and currently, Gray Middle School where he has been the band director for 17 years.
Mrs. Glover is a french horn specialist who works with our students on a weekly basis during class, and also teaches many of our students privately. She is the adjunct horn professor at NKU and formerly taught horn at Mississippi State University.

Betty Douglas
Ms. Douglas is a freelance flutist and teacher in the Cincinnati area. She holds degrees from the State University of New York at Potsdam and the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. She comes weekly to work exclusively with our flute players and teaches many of our students private lessons.






GMS 8th Grade Band Selected to perform at Phi Beta Mu Invitational Concert Festival
The Gray Middle School 8th Grade Band was one of 3 middle school bands in Kentucky selected to perform as part of the Phi Beta Mu Invitational Concert Band Festival in Louisville. The band will travel to Louisville Male High School on March 16 and give a concert, then will get instruction from Dr. Frank Tracz of Kansas State University.
7th and 8th Grade Bands Receive Distinguished Ratings
The 7th and 8th Grade Bands received distinguished ratings from all judges at our annual assessment. The assessment, held at NKU's Greaves Auditorium, was host to 47 bands from all around Northern Kentucky.
